Tannas Now Resizing Very Large LCDs
May 30, 2009, Orange, California – Tannas Electronic Displays (TED), Inc. (Orange, California; www.Tannas.com) can now resize liquid crystal displays (LCDs) up to 42 inches in diagonal.
TED has demonstrated the new process, which uses new tooling and new techniques, by resizing a Samsung 40-inch HDTV display to 10.5 by 35.5 inches. “We are now confident we can resize very large LCDs in a very cost-effective way,” said TED President Lawrence Tannas, Jr.
TED’s primary business plan is to serve the market for product applications through licensees and to provide a glass-cutting service for the industry at large. TED currently has two licensees: Symbolic Displays Inc. of Santa Ana, California, and SGB Enterprises, Inc., of Valencia, California. TED will continue to perform R&D and to produce and sell resized LCD glass from its facility in Orange, California.
TED is also announcing the award of additional fundamental patents pertaining to resizing LCDs. New US patents, U.S. Patent Nos. 7,525,633 and 7,535,547, have been issued relative to TED’s resizing process, which include positioning the adhesive in between the plates along the glass cut line. This process ensures the integrity of the new glass seal. Patent No. CN 10044584 4C has been awarded in China, and a corresponding patent has been approved in Russia. Additional patents based upon PCT Publication WO 2006/028445, “APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR RESIZING ELECTRONIC DISPLAYS,” have been filed and published in the US, Canada and Europe. These patents also relate to TED’s resizing process, including where the resized seal is positioned between the plates while preserving the LCD spacing and, therefore, performance. Other related patents for TED are pending and can be provided by contacting the company.
“TED is in a new and unique strategic position,” said Tannas. “As a Licensee of BAE Systems’ resizing patents, and with the new and pending TED patents, TED has a dominant worldwide patent position. Furthermore, our pilot-line process is the most cost-efficient method for resizing LCDs using any conceivable process for low-volume LCD resizing.”
