Patent Announced

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

APRIL 9, 2001, ORANGE CALIFORNIA

Tannas Electronics, Orange, CA, announced today that their patent application for physically cutting liquid crystal displays (LCDs) to achive special sizes and shapes has been granted: Pat. U.S. 6,204,906 B1, Mar. 20, 2001, "METHODS OF CUSTOMIZING THE PHYSICAL SIZE AND SHAPE OF COMMERCIAL OFF-THE-SHELF (COTS) ELECTRONIC DISPLAYS." Additional patents are pending. Tannas Electronic Displays, Inc., a wholly-owned company of Tannas Electronics has been actively marketing the licensing of the technology and selling prototype samples for demonstration and evaluation. Examples of prototypes immediately available are shown on the web site www.tannas.com. Several technical publications on the applications of LCDs to avionics are also shown on the web site. Included is a technical paper Mr. Tannas is giving on the advances in resizing at SPIE AeroSense, Orlando, FL, April 19, 2001.

The technology consists of taking a COTS LCD and physically cutting it to a new size, resealing it and putting it into service with little or no change in its original performance. An example is taking a suitable COTS 4-inch by 5-inch display and making it into a square 4-inch by 4-inch display for an avionics 4 ATI display. The process opens up an unlimited source of custom-size displays for the aviation avionics industry at a fraction of the cost of custom-made displays.

Lawrence E. Tannas, Jr., President, says, "The labor cost of making a custom-sized AMLCD by my method is very low and there is no NRE and no minimum order." Tannas goes on to say that the process is easily implemented and that a turn key tool set is available to a licensee for resizing display glass. With the signing of a Noncompete/NDA, qualified parties may see a demonstration of the process at the Tannas Electronics facilities in Orange, California starting in June. A demonstration of an operating resized LCD can be arranged at any time through Larry Green, Director of Sales and Marketing.

The six sizes immediately available are as shown and can be downloaded from the web site as a pdf file: TED3X3P1, TED4X4P1, TED5X5P1, TED6X6P1, TED7X7P1, & TED8X8P1. The patent can be downloaded from the web site as a .pdf file: Pat. U.S. 6,204,906 B1.pdf.
